The Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) was originally created to inspect for and ensure armistice compliance at locations outside of the DMZ. The NNSC, under the Armistice Agreement originated consisted of delegations from four nations: Sweden and Switzerland, nominated by the UNC; Czechoslovakia and Poland, appointed by the Communists. North Korea declared the NNSC defunct in 1991 April and began boycotting their events because their nominated countries were no longer Communist nations. When Czechoslovakia split into two in 1993, North Korea refused to accept the Czech Republic as the replacement and forced the withdrawal of their delegation. In 1995 February, North Korea forcefully ejected the Polish delegation from North Korea. Now, only the Swedish and Swiss delegations perform this role on a fully time basis but the Polish delegation, who never accepted their dismissal, continues to occasionally return to Panmunjom to participate in NNSC functions.
